Sacred Heart Enthronement

Legion of Mary

The Sacred Heart Enthronement is a deeply meaningful apostolic work undertaken by Legionaries in the Legion of Mary, aimed at inviting families to recognize Christ’s kingship in their homes. Rooted in devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, this work seeks to transform households into centers of faith, prayer, and Christian life.

In this work, Legionaries visit families and prepare them for the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart—an act in which the family formally places an image of the Sacred Heart in a place of honor and consecrates their home and daily life to Christ. This is not merely a ceremony but a sincere commitment to live according to the Gospel, with Christ as the guiding presence in every aspect of family life.

Preparation is an essential part of the work. Legionaries gently instruct and guide families in understanding the meaning of the devotion, encouraging them to reflect on their relationship with God, to return to the sacraments if needed, and to cultivate habits of daily prayer. The Enthronement ceremony itself is carried out with reverence, often including prayers of consecration, Scripture readings, and the recitation of the Rosary.

Beyond the ceremony, Legionaries continue to support the family by encouraging perseverance in their commitment—promoting regular prayer, devotion to the Sacred Heart, and a spirit of charity and unity within the home. In this way, the work extends beyond a single visit and becomes an ongoing journey of spiritual renewal.

This apostolate reflects the Legion’s mission of bringing Christ into the hearts and homes of people through the maternal mediation of Mary. By fostering devotion to the Sacred Heart, Legionaries help establish Christ’s reign in families, trusting that from these homes, grace will radiate outward into the wider community.
