Acies Ceremony
Learn More
The Acies is one of the most beautiful and solemn ceremonies of the Legion of Mary, celebrated each year on or near the Feast of the Annunciation (March 25). The word Acies is a Latin term meaning “a battle line” or “an army drawn up in formation,” symbolizing the Legion’s unity and readiness in spiritual combat under the banner of Our Lady.
During the ceremony, members gather before a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary to renew their individual consecration to her. Each legionary approaches the vexillum (Legion standard), places a hand upon it, and recites the Act of Consecration, reaffirming their promise of faithful service. Together, they stand united in prayer, entrusting their apostolic work to Mary’s guidance and protection.
The Acies is both a personal and communal act of dedication—a powerful expression of loyalty, humility, and confidence in Our Lady’s intercession as members recommit themselves to Christ through Mary.

The Annual Retreat
Learn More
An Annual Retreat sponsored by a Legion of Mary council offers legionaries dedicated time for prayer, silence, and spiritual renewal. Focused on the Legion’s emphasis on holiness as the basis for effective apostolic work, the retreat encourages members to step away from daily duties to deepen their relationship with Christ and Our Lady.
Through conferences, meditation, the Sacraments, and personal reflection, legionaries are strengthened in their vocation of service. The retreat fosters unity within the Legion family while giving each member the chance to examine their spiritual life, renew their commitment, and return to active duty refreshed, encouraged, and more closely in tune with the spirit of the Legion.
